We Must Protect

We Must Protect (WMP) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization founded by Tulsi Gabbard and activated in 2023 in response to the devastating Maui wildfires. Now registered in all 50 states, WMP is an organization of volunteers dedicated to supporting communities during their most critical times of need, spearheading projects to serve and protect our people, our planet, and our God-given rights.

The ‘Iwa

The ‘iwa bird (Great Frigatebird) is a symbol of protection, resilience and freedom.

Known as the protector of wayward seafarers, those lost at sea would look up for the ‘iwa for safe passage and to help guide them home. Also known as the Storm Bird, the ‘iwa is known for its resilience and perseverance. With a body built for extreme conditions, turbulence, high winds and extreme temperatures, the iwa is known for its ability to fly through the most challenging conditions and withstand any storm. It is beloved for its resilience, strength and grace in the face of adversity.
